Stefanstein

Sooooooo, haven't  posted for a while, but here the project is brewing. I've been converting one of my rooms (actually my girlfriends rooms) into a design studio, and been working on the design, and on this little monster

which is a 1/2 scale mockup of myself made of cardboard and some crap poplar wood, and he will be usefull for, of course 1/2 scale mockups of the velomobile. If someone need instructions on how to make one, feel free to contact me.
About the design, i started accurately modelling the wheels and cranckset, and the rest, well, not so accurately. For the first part of the design i'm using blender, because it's so much faster than solidworks, which i will use on the later part, for the manufacture, and fine tuning.

So here are some of the latest design variations, the last one is the one i like most, and the images down here, are from an earlier design, but here the door counts.
Oh and i've decided to use 24 inch wheels on the front and back, mostly for aesthetics, but maybe after i make the mockup, it will look good also with 20 inch wheels.

I hope i will get to publish some details on how to make the wood joints somewhere around this weekend, and if anyone will have a better idea, please tell me .

new shape

So, I redesign the fairing, to give it a more muscular/sculptural look. Not the final design, and the back view does not match the side view, because they are 4 days appart, but i'm working on it.

laminated wood, now in english

Hi there. So, this is my first and failed attempt to make a curved laminated wood girder. I used 1.5mm thick poplar wood (salvaged from fruit and vegetable crates), which is somewhat like balsa wood, only more crap. The form was made to simulate the rear fork for the velomobile, which i think it will be better off by using carbon fibre. Anyway, first i tried to directly bend the veneer, ended in catastrophic failure of the wood. Second attempt, I put the wood in some water, left it for 5 minutes, and the gently bent it into an aprozimate shape, after which i left it to dry overnight, on the radiator in my room. The next morning came the glueing, For which I used Moment watertight wood glue. Put glue on the faces, clamped it, and left it 24 h. After i removed the clamps, it all seemed to work just fine, until i stretched the girder. Again, catastrophic failure, but the glue gave in. I remember using this glue last year, and it said on the instructions that when glueing porous materials like wood, one should first apply a layer on the wood, let it dry, only after that the actual structural layer can be applied. I didn't do that, so, it kinda failed. I am doing one more attempt by using this technique, hopefully it will work better. If not, someone could direct me to some more specialized and potent glues. Cheers.
